Christmas In Our Town still needs volunteers for December event (2024)

How pleasant the weather has been the last few days. It’s been cooler allowing me to mow the upper 40! Not really that much acreage but it sure feels like it when it hasn’t been done in a few weeks, and the bees are stopping me often to eradicate a nest here and there. They are the ground bees that are slightly vicious, one in the mowed area and one in the porch foundation. Not sure how the spray will get into the crevice of the cement blocks, but wish me luck tonight.

Grill 250

Check out the “Smokey Joe Double” at the Grill 250. A double burger, cheddar cheese, bacon onion rings and hickory smoked barbecue sauce. There is also a new special called “Smokey Goes West” which comes with colby jack cheese, bacon, grilled jalapenos, onion rings, barbecue sauce and homemade ranch dressing on a brioche bun. Oh, you really should stop by and pick one up for lunch.

Christmas In Our Town

The meeting of Christmas In Our Town was jam packed with ideas and logistical conundrums. Parade lineup and execution was a big topic of discussion with last year’s parade going very well for the most part. Our very small committee is looking for more assistance during the night of the event. If you are interested in assisting with logistics beforehand or just can help the night of the parade please contact us. We would appreciate the help. Email Barrackville2019@gmail.com to find out the date of our next committee meeting. This will be the 24th year for our hometown celebration.

Christmas In Our Town will conduct fundraisers to support the evening’s entertainment. A Road Toll is being planned as town hall scheduling permits. A Yard Sale & Hot Dog sale will be held October 4-5 with times and drop off details to be announced later. Last year’s budget for the event totaled over $10,000. The Barrackville Lions Club pays for security, fireworks, Santa, some parade appearances, the horse and buggy and many, many other items for the days festivities. Samantha Hepner attended explaining her Christmas In Our Town Pageant and the young ladies participation in pageants and volunteering in town events. The Lighting of the Barrackville Covered Bridge will take place on Sunday, December 1. The lighting honors a resident that has passed recently and this year will be in memory of Mrs. Bane. The decorating of the bridge will take place on two weekend with the low light being placed on Saturday, November 23 and the highlights (Thank You Barrackville Volunteer Fire Department!) being placed on Saturday, November 30. The next CIOT meeting will be Monday, September 16 at 6 p.m. at the Lions Community Building.
